Nickerson Beach 2011

Saturday, 7/17/2011 we had the pleasure of attending a Aqeeqa for ZaynAdeen Elfiky, my friend Arelis' son who is nine months old and a lovable baby, masha'Allah. May Allah preserve him and his family.

On Sunday morning, we hit the beach! There is a very private beach next to my parents' house, about a twelve minute drive from where they live. We left at 7am and enjoyed a reflective, windy morning walking on the sand, getting our feet wet and trying to memorize some Qur'an.

Oh yea, I was also able to take some pictures of Ahmed. Poor guy, he never is in any of the shots.

 Starting early ;) Insha'Allah...

Sumaya doesn't look too happy here but I had to add this because of the matching shirts.
She knows what it means when I put her shoes on- we're going outside! Freedom!
A beach in Port Washington that is half beach/half park. Sumaya walked a lot- my heart would keep skipping a beat out of fear of her falling on the asphalt.
 Sumi thoroughly enjoying herself
 Left right left
We went to the same beach when Sumi was three weeks old- I had her in a baby bjorn with a blanket around her for fear the wind may be too strong on her delicate body. SubhanAllah how much a child grows in such a little time period.
The colors that Allah chooses to put together never ever fail to disappoint.
Sumaya testing out the sand- she didn't like it very much...little by little I am determined to have her love the beach, insha'Allah.

I would love to know what she is thinking right now. "I wonder how much sand I can eat before getting caught." Maybe?
Mama Fufu and Sumi approaching the ocean. Sumi was resisting.

 Family feet
 Awesome
We can always depend on mama to be prepared- fresh cut up strawberries, blueberries, crackers and cheese. I love you mama.
And now, what we've all been waiting for...drum roll please- Ahmed's Photo Shoot!
Serious Look
I know I'm cool with my thumb so strategically placed inside my pocket.
Kindness- this is the Ahmed I know :)
Blurred Ahmed looking out in the distance, contemplating life.
Ahmed: Is she still taking more shots?
Completely candid till I caught him. I would love to one day be able to do this every morning.
Sumaya had her hand out so I wanted to imitate her in order for her to look at the camera. But, as usual, she is too enthralled with her Giddo. She loves him so much, alhamdulillah :)
My smile is so cheesy here.

  1. The ocean here is murkier here than eastern Long Island and the surf is often rough so it's not ideal for swimming. Here's the bad part. Even if you're a resident, you have to pay $10 for parking. Non resident is $30!!!! Rip off! Come late in the afternoon like I do just to sit and relax by the ocean.
